Intergenerational practice aims to bring people together in purposeful, mutually beneficial activities which promote greater understanding and respect between generations and contributes to building more cohesive communities. Intergenerational practice is inclusive, building on the positive resources that the young and old have to offer each other and those around them (Definition of Intergenerational Practice: Beth Johnson Foundation, 2001)

The Centre for Intergenerational Practice (CIP) aims to support the development and promotion of intergenerational practice as a catalyst for social change; the Centre is an initiative of the Beth Johnson Foundation. Through its funding sources and partners, it seeks to provide expert support to develop intergenerational practice across the UK and Europe.

The Beth Johnson Foundation is commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government to deliver the Intergenerational Strategy for Wales, and works in partnership in Northern Ireland to support the development of an innovative programme of intergenerational community engagement.
